Rocaterrania screening

A film I’ve been working on for over a year is seeing the light of day this Wednesday, January 31. There is a reception at the Duke Center for Documentary Studies at 6PM and the screening is in the Richard White auditorium on Duke’s East campus at 7:30. This is an “in-progress” screening but the film promises to be excellent.

Here is a track I contributed to the soundtrack. And here are details about the screening.

“It is said that even Saraswati, goddess of wisdom and learning and music, when she enters the Nada Brahma, the ocean of sound, feels that it is so impenetrable, so profound, and is concerned less she, the goddess of music may be lost, inundated by it. So she places two gourds around her, in the form of Veena, and then she is guided by them into it.” - Indian vocalist Sri Karunamayee, as quoted in this excellent article  by The Wire writer Marcus Boon.

Don’t miss Chicago percussionist Michael Zerang’s performance at the Broad St Cafe in Durham this Saturday Jan 13 at 8PM! Here’s an interview with Zerang in the Independent Weekly.
