Van-city
I’m in Vancouver for the Signal+Noise Festival hosted by a very friendly media arts production and distribution center called VIVO. The fest is comprised of three days of video, sound/music performance and diffusion, and installation. Plus some odd performance art pieces taking place during intermissions. My piece “Stalwart cercle, wavering canton” was selected for one of the audio playback/diffusion sets. That means I’m just here to listen to my piece being played over a fancy 8-speaker system in a large listening space.
The highlights from the first night: a hilarious and disturbing video piece by Vancouver locals Emily Vey Duke, fellow Deep Listener Kathy Kennedy’s live sound perfromance, an installation involving a little box of hearing aids making feedback, and a short set by Mecca Normal(!) who I hadn’t seen in almost 10 years.
Thanks to the Orange County Arts Commission for awarding me a grant to help out with some of the travel expenses. And also to Stephanie Loveless for billeting me.
