Since I’m on a nostalgia tip, sorting through old posters and clippings, planning going-away parties…

Here is Spatula (check out our entry on Used Bin Forever …sniff) covering “Maggot Brain”, from our reunion(!) show at the WXYC Tower Benefit at the Cats Cradle in 2002. The sound quality is le crap, but it was a pretty good performance. Bill Burton, Esq., is featured on the spoken word intro.

And from Despina by Land, “Peony” - an homage to those Decals-era Beefheart guitar pieces I was so obsessed with at the time. Features Amy Wilkinson on bass. This is one I still like to listen to.

And from more recent vaults: an electroacoustic duet with me and Robert Biggers from a Recess show sometime last year. Notice the abrupt (and seemingly intentional) ending that happens at around 27 minutes. A fuse blew at the Nightlight and the stage lost power. Just as it was starting to get good.

As for the going away party - it’s this Saturday at the Big House. DJ’s Nasty Boots, Juan Velcro and Admit It, plus DATAHATA and more.

The empty chair and stage are dramatic, no? The photo is courtesy of Tim Ross and Tuba City. The image seems appropriate as it was taken at one of the first Pykrete shows - back in 2004 when I opened for David Grubbs. And also because this Saturday July 7 I’m playing my last show as a NC resident. I’m happy to go out like this:
